Well, not everything is THAT great on the battlefield.

I believed Google keyword research tool to be the best, but the more Google page 1 experience I have – the more prooves I get that Google search demand is seriously exaggerated.

And not only I see that. My clients (thanks to the free one way links) get their Google page 1 in different niches. And they also complain about the same.

And all tools that outsource WordTracker make no sense to me, because WordTracker simply harvests the data from Dogpile and Metacrawler (you can find it on their official website)

And I would not bet a single buck to support the idea that Google and Dogpile+Metacrawler have the same search trends (I am not talking about numbers, I am talking about trends).

So, all “derivatives” of WordTracker (this is my personal opinion) are pointless. And the big Google (to my personal regret) boasts with a much bigger search than it has; maybe because they want to lure more AdWorders into the game – I do not know.

I noticed that you did not note the Overture keyword tool. Perhaps for obvious reasons. I have not seemed to be able to locate it online for a while now. Even when others told me it was taken offline, I could visit some forum and be provided with an alternate url and find it somewhere in cyberspace.

Just wondering what ever happened to Yahoo!/Overture’s free keyword generator?

Great post. I work for one of the larger SEO firms out there and I still apply a lot of your tips to what I do. Every single month I’m out at the business mixers for our local chamber of commerce selling both myself as well as the company I work for, you just never know where you might find your next job. Now what not to do if your going to Freelance is spam the crap out of everyone contact forms with free website analysis requests!! Cheers.

All i was trying to say is there are more efficient and quality links compared to directories. Directories still have a place at the start of a link building campaign. Links can accomplish 2 things authority and click troughs so why not try and obtain both from every link.

Daniel – I do not believe external link building can cause a site to drop page rank. Page rank is not very important tho – you want to focus on serps – did you drop in the search results for your keywords as well. Did you make any other changes?

niche kewords are seemingly impossle now a days. All my competition seems to know every word in the dictionary. Maybe I can make up a word, implement that word into my copy and then convince everyone that the made up word is a real one… I wish SEO was as easy as it used to be. There is so much competition now a days that unless you are retardedly persistant, or just a genius, failure is on your side 95% of the time.

I agree. The issue im having with PPC is the price companies expect you to pay per click. I have over 500 keywords in my list, im bidding .05 on each word. Its been 24 hours since I started my new campaign and the last time I checked I had only 14 impressions and no click throughs. My budget for the month is 450 dollars so I dont have much to spend. That being said I want to get the most out of my money and Im having a hard time figuring out how right now. .3 cents a click seems like a lot to me for one click. Have you tried getting traffic with a max bid of .3… Hard to do now a days.

This is a great article and couldn’t agree with you more. While there is a great deal of time and energy that goes into a PPC campaign the fees for doing so shouldn’t be exponentially more than your click budget. I had the opportunity to actually learn from members of Google and Yahoo while at a previous employer selling managed PPC services. It astonishes me how much mis-information is out there. I would rather spend several hours teaching a client how to do it effectively on their own if they have the time to do so. It will pay higher dividends in the long run.
